Abstract
This study aims to identify the clinical characteristics of tension type headache (TTH) patients who underwent medical acupuncture therapy at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. Using a cross-sectional descriptive research design, data were collected from patient medical records for the period 2022-2023. A total of 25 patients were selected by purposive sampling based on the inclusion criteria, namely having undergone six complete acupuncture therapy sessions. The results showed that patients aged 35-45 years were the dominant group (56%), indicating the high prevalence of TTH in productive age due to work and social pressure. The majority of patients were female (56%), which was attributed to hormonal factors and social responsibilities. Most of the patients had normal BMI (60%), supporting previous studies which stated that BMI is not directly correlated with TTH prevalence. In addition, 60% of patients had abnormal cholesterol levels (>200 mg/dL), which could potentially trigger TTH through vascular disorders. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of managing stress and cholesterol levels as an effort to prevent TTH. Medical acupuncture therapy is an effective treatment alternative that can be considered for chronic TTH cases.
