Abstract

According to WHO, stroke is defined as an acute cerebrovascular condition that causes neurologic problems in a specific area or worldwide for more than 24 hours or ends in death. The two main categories of stroke are emorrhagic and ischemic. Ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked by a thrombus or embolus. Its serious complication, hemorrhagic transformation, is characterized by hemorrhage in the infarct or surrounding area, which may trigger decreased consciousness, increased intracranial pressure, focal neurological deficits, or other symptoms of ischemic stroke. Hemorrhagic transformation increases morbidity, mortality, and affects prognosis and treatment options. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between risk factors and the number of hemorrhagic transformations that occurred in patients who experienced ischemic stroke at the Gatot Soebroto Presidential Hospital Jakarta.
