Abstract
Introduction: Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity are increasingly common health problems in society and their prevalence continues to increase due to various risk factors. Assessment of nutritional status including body mass index (BMI) and visceral fat are known related to cardiovascular risk and increased triglycerides and blood glucose due to the accumulation of fat tissue. Triglyceride-glucose index has been known to be a measure of cardiovascular risk. This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and visceral fat with triglyceride-glucose index among the employees of the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Jakarta. Methods: This study used analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design involving 60 subjects based on secondary data of the laboratory medical check-up among employees at UPNVJ using simple logistic regression analysis. Results: There was no significant relationship between BMI and triglyceride-glucose index but showed a positive correlation in UPNVJ employees (p=0.132; r=0.484). Meanwhile, there is a significant relationship with a positive correlation (p=0.014; r=1.383) between visceral fat and triglyceride-glucose index among the employees with an odds ratio of 3.987 times. Conclusion: A significant relationship was found between visceral fat and triglyceride-glucose index, while the BMI is not significantly related but has a positive correlation with triglyceride-glucose index. Bibliography : 89 Keywords : Body mass index (BMI), visceral adipose tissue (VAT), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index), cardiovascular risk.
