Abstract
The impostor phenomenon is defined as a feeling of self-doubt or the belief that one is an impostor, often associated with individuals who have intellectual achievements. Perfectionism, on the other hand, is a personality trait characterized by the pursuit of perfection and the tendency to set exceedingly high performance standards. Both the impostor phenomenon and perfectionism are known to contribute to academic procrastination. This study aims to examine the relationship between the impostor phenomenon and perfectionism with academic procrastination among students of FK UPNVJ. The research design is observational-analytic, employing a cross-sectional approach. A total of 263 students were selected as the sample through a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale, the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and the Academic Procrastination Scale-Short Form. Univariate analysis revealed that 165 students (62.7%) fell into the high impostor phenomenon category, 41 students (15.6%) were in the high perfectionism category, and 189 students (71.9%) were in the moderate perfectionism category. Additionally, 52 students (19.8%) were in the high academic procrastination category, while 168 students (63.9%) were in the moderate academic procrastination category. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square correlation test indicated a significant relationship between impostor phenomenon (p-value = 0,000) and perfectionism (p-value = 0.040) with academic procrastination. However, multivariate analysis using multinomial logistic regression revealed that the impostor phenomenon (p-value = 0.001) significantly influenced academic procrastination, while perfectionism (p-value = 0.119) did not. This discrepancy suggests that the relationships between variables may shift when mediated by other factors.
