Abstract
Objective Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) is the leading cause of kidney failure in Indonesia, with the number of deaths expected to increase from 29,061 in 2020 to 63,279 in 2045. Although many studies have examined the relationship between glycaemic control and the severity of DKD, the results remain inconsistent. This study aims to clarify this relationship in patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Methods This study is quantitative with a cross-sectional design, using secondary data from medical records at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. The sample size was 84, and the data included information on gender, age, duration of DM, BMI, UACR, kidney ultrasound results, comorbidities, blood pressure, HbA1c, and GFR. Data were analyzed using a univariate test for the distribution of characteristics and a Spearman correlation bivariate test. Result The results showed that the majority of the sample had mild LFG decline (53.6%), controlled HbA1c (63.1%), prehypertensive blood pressure (51.2%), obese BMI (56%), type 2 DM (97.6%), and one comorbidity (45.2%). The average duration of DM was 7.88 years, with an average age of 64.28 years. Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between glycaemic control and chronic kidney disease severity (p = 0.045, r = 0.219). Conclusion The characteristics of the study sample were predominantly male, with type 2 DM, obesity, one comorbid (most commonly dyslipidemia), prehypertension, UACR in the normal or moderately increased range, mild decline in GFR, controlled HbA1c, and normal renal ultrasound results. The average duration of DM was 7.88 months, with a mean age of 64.28 years. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between HbA1c and LFG, with a positive but weak correlation (p = 0.045, r = 0.219).
