Abstract

Background: Endometrial hyperplasia is a condition of abnormal proliferation of endometrial glands due to an imbalance of the hormone estrogen and progesterone. Hormonal contraception is a pregnancy prevention device or drug that contains the hormone estrogen-progesterone or just progesterone which can trigger hyperplasia of the endometrial cell structure by affecting the body's hormonal system. Parity is the number of births a mother has experienced, both live or dead babies, and also carries the risk of increasing the thickening of the cell structure of the endometrium by influencing the proliferation and differentiation of endometrial gland cells. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between history of hormonal contraceptive use and parity with histopathological features in endometrial hyperplasia patients. Method: This study is a cross-sectional retrospective study conducted at the Bhayangkara TK.I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital, Jakarta. Data from endometrial hyperplasia patients medical records were collected from January 2021 – December 2023. Then this data was processed using the chi-square test. Result: The total research sample was 45 patients and the p-value for history of hormonal contraception with histopathological picture was 0.015, PR for history of hormonal contraceptive with histopathological picture was 0.083. P-value of parity with histopathology is 0.094 PR of parity with histopathology is 3.055. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant relationship between history of hormonal contraceptive use and histopathological features with a 1-fold increase in nonatypical hyperplasia. There was no relationship between parity and the histopathological picture of endometrial hyperplasia.
