Abstract
The high prevalence of psychological distress among medical students is not accompanied by a corresponding intention to seek professional psychological help. This phenomenon has been linked to self-disclosure, which is closely related to personality types. This study aims to examine the relationship between psychological distress and personality types with the intention to seek professional psychological help among medical students. This study uses a cross-sectional design with primary data collected through a questionnaire distributed to 94 respondents. The analysis method used in this study was the Chi-Square test and logistic regression test, with psychological distress and personality type as independent variables and the intention to seek professional psychological help as the dependent variable. The analysis results indicated no significant relationship between psychological distress and personality type with the intention to seek professional psychological help, with P-values of 1.000 and 0.157, respectively. The multivariate analysis indicates that 6,8% of the professional psychological help-seeking intention can be explained by the psychological distress and personality types. While the remaining 93,8% is explained by other variables outside this research model. The conclusion of this study is that psychological distress and personality type do not have a significant relationship with the intention to seek professional psychological help among medical students.
