Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence throughout the years and influenced by the modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. Nutritional status, including body mass index (BMI) and visceral adipose tissue, is known related to lipid profile, lipid ratio, and cardiovascular risk. LDL-C to HDL-C ratio could be used as indicator to determine cardiovascular risk. This research assessed the association between nutritional status (BMI and visceral adipose tissue) and LDL-C to HDL-C ratio among the employees of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta. Methods: This cross-sectional study used analytical observational method involving 56 subjects based on the results of the laboratory medical check-up among employees at UPNVJ. Results: The result of logistic regression analysis showed a positive correlation with an odds ratio of 1.230 times, but not significantly related between BMI and LDL-C to HDL-C ratio among the employees (r=0.207; p=0.464). On the other hand, there was a positive and significant correlation between visceral adipose tissue level and LDL-C to HDL-C ratio among the employees with an odds ratio of 3.198 times (r=1.366; p=0.030). Conclusion: Visceral adipose tissue has a positive and significant relationship with LDL-C to HDL-C ratio, while the BMI is not significantly related but has a positive correlation with LDL-C to HDL-C ratio.
