Abstract
Indonesia has ambitions to become a global hub for halal products due to its potential in the halal industry, particularly in the food sector. However, currently Indonesia mainly serves as a primary destination for halal products from other countries, whereas it has the potential to be a major player in the global halal industry. This is evident from the significant gap between Indonesia's halal product exports and the demand for imported halal products. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as the largest Muslim majority group, provides a substantial market and potential for Indonesia's exports as a non-traditional market. In recent years, Indonesia has engaged in numerous economic diplomacy efforts with the OIC, both through multilateral cooperation within the OIC and bilaterally with member countries. Indonesia has also utilized various trade facilitation mechanisms provided by OIC through its subsidiary organizations such as COMCEC, ICDT, and SMIIC. The theoretical framework used in this research includes economic diplomacy and international trade barriers. The research methods employed are literature review and interviews. The findings of this research indicate that Indonesia often uses economic diplomacy through the OIC to promote its products, such as trade exhibitions, participation in halal product training, and bilateral agreements.
