Abstract
This research discusses the role of ASEANAPOL in handling human trafficking cases in Indonesia. After the trend of human trafficking cases surging in 2021-2023, the Indonesian government needs a component to overcome this problem by involving external parties such as ASEANAPOL as a police organisation of Southeast Asian countries through its activities and activities. The research method used in this thesis is descriptive qualitative research with data obtained using a bibliography, analysis of official documents, interviews, and secondary sources relevant to the research topic. This research shows that ASEANAPOL has a strategic role for Indonesia in dealing with the increasing cases of human trafficking. Based on Clive Archer's theory of the role of international organisations, the author found that ASEANAPOL has a role as an instrument, arena, and actor for Indonesia through the implementation of its functions. ASEANAPOL plays a role in facilitating meetings, exchanging information, and also encouraging the handling of transnational crime cases, especially human trafficking. The maximisation of functions can be done if the decision makers of each member country can create a strong legal framework so that ASEANAPOL has the flexibility in its role in dealing with cases that arise. This research has an understanding of the urgency of human trafficking cases that occur and how ASEANAPOL can play its role. The results of this research are expected to serve as a foundation for the Indonesian government, ASEAN member states, and ASENAPOL to further develop a system with a firm commitment and legal framework in dealing with the issue of human trafficking.
