Abstract
This study aims to draw a picture of the process of Anies Baswedan's nomination as a non-internal candidate of the NasDem Party and to find out the NasDem Party's reasons for nominating Anies Baswedan in the 2024 election. The phenomenon of non-internal candidates is a political phenomenon that signifies the difference between the 2024 elections and the previous elections. In this context, it indicates that political parties in Indonesia at this time have not been able to carry out their functions properly, one of which is the function of political recruitment. Then, this phenomenon is seen as a way of pragmatism of the NasDem party in the 2024 elections. This research uses a qualitative approach and the type of research used is descriptive-analytical. The concepts used are political parties, political party functions, political party typologies, and using Richard E. Matland's candidacy theory. This research uses data collection techniques through interviews and literature studies in the form of books, news, and previous research journals relevant to this research. The results showed that the process of Anies Baswedan's nomination had two motives, namely closed and open. In the closed motive, NasDem conducted internal communication before the official announcement. In the open motive, the nomination process of the NasDem party's presidential candidate was carried out through screening at the National Working Meeting (RAKERNAS). In addition, Anies Baswedan's nomination caused internal friction and external polemics in the NasDem party.
