Abstract
Agarwood is widely used to relieve pain, fever, rheumatism, suppress vomiting and asthma. Agarwood is an oleoresin that can be formed naturally or by inoculation from the Aqularia malaccensis tree. The difficulty of obtaining agarwood oil is a driving factor in the counterfeiting of essential oils. The absence of quality standards for agarwood essential oil makes it difficult to detect counterfeiting. The aim of this research is to determine the differences in the chemical components and characteristics of the essential oils of natural aloes and cultivated aloes. identification of chemical compounds in agarwood oil using the GC-MS method. The characteristics tested are yield value, organoleptics, specific gravity, refractive index, acid number, and solubility in alcohol. The yield values for natural and cultivated agarwood were obtained at 0.049% and 0.026%. The organoleptics of the second sample are dark green, smooth, have a strong characteristic odor for natural aloes and a weak characteristic odor for cultivated aloes. The major components in the second sample are 2-Butanone, 4-phenyl, 10-epi-γ-Eudesmol, Guaiol. Natural and cultivated agarwood have significant differences in the specific gravity and acid number values of essential oil samples, seen from the results of the One-way ANOVA test with a significance of <0.05. Meanwhile, for the refractive index value, there was no significant difference obtained from the Kruskall-Wallis test and the significance value was > 0.05.
