Abstract
Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) have antioxidant activity and potential for use in cosmetic products. Soothing gel is a popular semisolid cosmetic product because it does not clog pores and is easily washed off with water. This study aims to determine the effect of varying concentrations of carbopol 940 (0.75%, 1.25%, 1.75%) and HPMC (1.5%, 2.25%, 3%) gel bases on physical stability. The research method was experimental, with five soothing gel formulas of moringa leaf ethanol extract tested for physical stability under accelerated conditions at 40±2℃, RH 75±5%, and observations on days 0, 8, and 30. Results showed F1 (carbopol 940 0.75%) had the highest total flavonoid content of 21.082 mgQE/g. F5 (carbopol 940 1.75% and HPMC 3%) had the best physical stability results in terms of pH, adhesion, spreadability, and viscosity after 30 days with values of 4.09; 6.43 cm; 6.88 seconds; and 25,486 Cps, respectively. The study found that higher base concentrations resulted in lower pH and spreadability but higher adhesion and viscosity. Correlation test results showed a significance value of <0.005, indicating a significant difference between the formulation and stability test and the relationship between the combination variation and stability test.
