Abstract

This research aims to determine public opinion regarding the potential for utilizing the position of General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) as a political vehicle in the elections, especially after the suspension of PSSI was lifted by FIFA. Football and politics are indeed difficult to separate, especially as the association that houses Indonesian football, namely PSSI, definitely has a connection with politics. The General Chair of PSSI is often used as a political tool for the holder, because becoming the General Chair of PSSI will influence the popularity and electability of a political actor among the large number of Indonesian football fans. This research examines public opinion online via platform X (Twitter) using netnographic research methods. Data collection techniques were carried out using observations via social media X (Twitter), as well as literature studies in the form of books, previous journals, news via online media and mass media that were relevant to this research. The theory used in this research is Public Opinion Theory. The results of the research show that the public assesses the potential for using the position of PSSI General Chair as a political vehicle in the elections. This is because there are so many football fans in Indonesia that the public suspects that it is a commodity that is contested by political actors to get the votes of Indonesian football fans in the election contestation, although not the only factor that influences victory in elections, popularity and electability are important factors for political actors.
