Abstract
Background: Athetoid cerebral palsy involves involuntary movement or unconscious movement that occur repeatedly in the upper dan lower extremities, as well as in the distal part of the face, accompanied by fluctuating muscle tone. Athetoid cerebral palsy accounts for approximately 12% to 14% of all cerebral palsy cases. Case Study Objective: To understand the physiotherapy management of athetoid cerebral palsy cases at Ramah Cerebral Palsy. Method: This study employs a descriptive case study approach to provide a systematic overview of a cerebral palsy athetoid and to analyze the case in-depth. With Neuro Development Treatment (NDT) method and sensoric stimulation, one patient participating in this case study, the parameters used were sensory examination, joint range of motion examination, GMFM, and GMFCS. Results: The evaluation results obtained after the examination and intervention given during 3 meetings, showd subjective and objective changes, such as the patient being able to maintain an upright sitting position for longer, decreased involuntary movement activity, tone slightly towards normal, and decreased stiffness in tightness, and enhancement range of motion. Conclusion: To achieve the desired goals, consistency is needed in providing interventions, and consistent monitoring of the role of parents in carrying out the home program. Keywords: Athetoid Cerebral Palsy, Involuntary Movement Muscle Tone Fluctuation, GMFM, GMFCS
