Abstract

One of the health problems that is often encountered in young women in Indonesia is iron deficiency anemia. According to Riskesdas 2018, as many as 35% of young women in Banten experience anemia. As they grow, young women experience changes in lifestyle, such as diet and rest patterns, which can cause anemia. Apart from that, another risk factor that causes anemia is socio-economic status. This study aims to determine the relationship between eating patterns, rest patterns, and socio-economic status with the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls at SMPN 2 South Tangerang. This research method is cross sectional with a sample size of 106 female students obtained using stratified random sampling. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire to determine socio-economic status, FFQ to measure eating patterns, and PSQI to measure rest patterns. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman rank test for continuous data and chi-square for categorical data. The results of this study found that the higher consumption of Fe sources (p-value = 0.001) and compliance with the consumption of blood supplement tablets (p-value = 0.000) were significantly related to the higher hemoglobin levels of adolescent girls at SMPN 2 South Tangerang. A significant relationship was also found between maternal education (p-value= 0.035) and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls at SMPN 2 South Tangerang. It is hoped that the school will hold a program with the aim of meeting the need for Fe sources and increasing compliance with blood supplement tablets among adolescents.
