Abstract

The documentary entitled ‘Simalakama Homo Jakartensis: Polusi Udara Megapolitan’ will explore the impact of dirty air pollution in Jakarta through the perspective of the people of the capital city. Through the Free cinema approach that combines narrative and cinematic aspects, this film presents the voices of the speakers who are directly affected, namely representations of students, street vendors, and office workers to open the public's eyes to the challenges and struggles that are carried out. The bitter stories of the interviewees in describing the impact of air pollution in Jakarta open up insights into the interconnectedness of social and environmental issues, triggering exploratory content about the construction of the reality of life in this crowded and polluted city. The film not only illustrates the complexity of the air pollution problem, but also invites the public to act, raise awareness, and support changes towards a cleaner and healthier environment from the perspective of environmental observers. In the design of this documentary film creation, the documentarian's work position is as a director and penyunting gambar. The Free cinema approach is used as the basis in the design of this documentary creation. The Free cinema approach means using practical and lightweight equipment when taking pictures. The purpose of this approach is that the expected results are more than just ordinary reportage, but the resulting work can provide transparent information for the public. The steps taken were to conduct investigative research on air pollution in Jakarta. The documentarian examined various sources that included statistical data, scientific research, and reports from environmental organizations. The documentarian also acts as an audio-visual architect, creating various elements for the movie to have the desired appeal and impact. The selection of interview clips and field footage is also included in the documentarian's duties.
