Abstract
This research aims to discuss how the trend of political polarization conditions in Indonesia is getting stronger or actually subsiding and to find out whether the factors that caused political polarization in the previous election are residual in the 2024 presidential election contestation. In analyzing these conditions, the author uses the theory of destructive polarization to determine the extent of polarization conditions that occur during the 2024 presidential election. The method used in this research is qualitative and phenomenological type using primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques were carried out using data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with purposive sampling and literature studies. This research uses the interactive model data analysis technique from Miles & Huberman which consists of stages, namely, data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification / conclusion drawing referring to data tringulation. The final research results of this study show that in the 2024 presidential election contestation, there has been a decrease in the trend of political polarization in Indonesia, which is considered to have strengthened and experienced extreme division in the previous presidential election. This happens because it can be shown by the declining trend of exploitation of religious identity, reactions to hate speech, hoakses and labeling in the line of competition, as well as related changes in the strategies of competing political actors. From the dynamics that occur, it can be said that the conditions of political polarization in the 2024 presidential election are not different from the previous presidential election. In addition, the author's analysis shows the finding that the conditions of political polarization in the 2024 presidential election have changed the discourse compared to the previous presidential election, where the discourse of political polarization in the 2024 presidential election in Indonesia is more due to the discourse of abuse of executive power than the exploitation of formative rifts, namely religious identity. The condition of political polarization in the 2024 presidential election can be categorized as destructive and threatening political polarization based on the institutional aspects of democracy, but it does not cause and threaten the social order in society, because there is no extreme division and hostility in society.
