Abstract

Moringa is a plant that has many flavonoid compounds, especially in the leaves. In recent years, there have been innovations to increase organic compound levels in natural raw materials using gamma irradiation techniques. This study aims to determine the effect of gamma irradiation dose variation on the yield value and total flavonoid content of moringa leaf extract. The study involved variations of gamma irradiation doses: 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 kGy. Determination of total flavonoid content was carried out using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method at a wavelength of 420nm. The results showed that the highest yield value of moringa leaf extract was obtained at an irradiation dose of 7.5 kGy at 28.35%. The results of the Kruskal Wallis test showed no significant difference in yield value (P>0.05). The highest total flavonoid content in moringa leaf extract was obtained at an irradiation dose of 7.5 kGy at 14.1047 ± 0.0366 mgQE/g. The ANOVA test results indicate a significant difference in total flavonoid levels (P <0.05).
