Abstract
The background of this research is based on the phenomenon of self-disclosure through the use of Instagram second accounts in uploading various activities, opinions, and emotional expressions as an effort to reveal themselves and strengthen relationships on social media. Second Instagram accounts tend to be more private because they are only intended for the closest people. This study aims to understand self-disclosure behavior in the use of second Instagram accounts that can describe the emotions of its users. The research method uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach to explore the subjective experience and perception of Instagram second account users. This study uses DeVito's self-disclosure dimension as a unit of analysis, which includes purpose and purpose, valence, timing, accuracy, and intimacy. This research adopts the theory of Social Penetration developed by Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor. The result of this study shows that self-disclosure on Instagram second accounts is used as a means to share daily experiences, outpouring, and more intimate personal views. Users feel more comfortable and secure to reveal themselves on second accounts because of the limited and more trusted audience. This process of self-disclosure follows the theory of Social Penetration which states that relationships develop from a superficial level to a more intimate level through an increasingly deep and personal exchange of information. The study concludes that Instagram second accounts serve as an effective platform for users to self-disclose, strengthening their interpersonal relationships.
