Abstract

Chronic kidney disease patients experience signs and symptoms due to the accumulation of waste products, particularly ureum, which becomes toxic when its levels exceed normal limits. To eliminate toxins from the body, hemodialysis is performed. Before or after undergoing hemodialysis, patients may suffer from fatigue, muscle weakness, pruritus (itchiness), nausea, vomiting, and uremic frost, which significantly impact their quality of life. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between Uremic Toxin levels and quality of life. This research utilized a cross-sectional design with purposive sampling technique, involving 108 respondents who met the study criteria: chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis with compos mentis consciousness and ureum levels ≥50 mg/dL. Data were collected using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQOL) questionnaire version 1.3 in Indonesian language. For normally distributed data, statistical analysis was conducted using ANOVA, while the Kruskal-Wallis test was used for non-normally distributed data. ANOVA results indicated a significant relationship between Uremic Toxin levels and quality of life in the emotional well-being sub-domain (p-value = 0.039).
