Abstract
The importance of encouraging family engagement, facilitating involvement and ongoing support has been highlighted in guidelines and literature. Family engagement increases time spent on delirium prevention activities, thereby reducing the incidence of delirium in the ICU. The application of nonpharmacological interventions to prevent delirium can be through family engagement built in the ICU room. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between family engagement and the incidence of delirium in ICU patients at RSUP Persahabatan. This research method uses a quantitative design with a cross sectional method and is analyzed with the chi square correlation test. The sampling method was purposive sampling with 31 family respondents and 31 patient respondents. The instruments in this study used FAME for family engagement variables and CAM ICU for delirium variables. The results showed a relationship between family engagement and the incidence of delirium in ICU patients with a p-value of 0.00 (<0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between family engagement and the incidence of delirium in ICU patients. The researchers hope that this study can be used by healthcare services to develop and implement protocols on how families can be involved in ICU care, including flexible visiting hours and activities that families can perform, so that reducing the incidence of delirium.
