Abstract

The shipbuilding industry plays a crucial role as part of the manufacturing sector and contributes to the national economy. The role of shipyards is so important that each region needs to have its own shipyard. The aim of this thesis is to plan the construction of a shipyard for new shipbuilding and ship repair in the Patimban area, West Java, and to analyze the material handling factors in the planning process. The analysis method used is material handling simulation with the assistance of Promodel software. Material handling analysis was conducted on various types of shipyard layouts, with layout type I, layout type U, and layout type Z used as comparisons to determine the optimal shipyard layout type. The designed shipyard has an area of 220,212.4 m². Based on the material handling simulation results for the three layout variations, in terms of material transfer, layout type I has a percentage of 97.58%, layout type U has a percentage of 97.80%, and layout type Z has a percentage of 97.43%. Based on these comparisons, layout type U is the optimal layout type in terms of material transfer. In terms of transport equipment utility and location/department utility, the three layout variations have insignificant differences. This thesis is expected to serve as a reference in shipyard planning and to advance the maritime industry in Indonesia.
