Abstract

Information needs are important for family caregivers to fulfill. The quality of care provided by family caregivers is highly dependent on the health information obtained. The purpose of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the experience of family caregivers in obtaining health information while caring for patients with stroke at home in the Cibinuang Kuningan Village area. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Participants consisted of ten main family caregivers who cared for family members suffering from stroke at home and were selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured in-depth interviews. Data analysis used miles and huberman model analysis. The results found 6 themes, namely sources of health information obtained, health information needed, obstacles in obtaining health information, obstacles in processing health information, not experiencing obstacles in obtaining health information and methods of providing information that participants prefer. Family caregivers need to think critically in receiving health information. Health professionals need to provide education according to the condition of the family caregiver to avoid errors that arise due to incomprehension in receiving information.
