Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is famous for producing the largest amount of waste in the world. (KLHK) reports that in 2021, the total waste produced will reach 21.88 million tons. Based on the National Waste Management Information System, the composition of the waste consists of 41% food waste and 40.9% comes from households. The large amount of food waste is a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Therefore, the use of Maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF) or larvae of BSF flies which have a role as decomposers, can provide benefits in the process of decomposing organic waste effectively. The aim of this outreach activity is to increase knowledge and encourage the public to use organic waste processing technology through BSF maggot media. Implementation methods include location surveys, direct outreach and education to residents about processing organic waste using BSF maggots, in the RW 08 area of Kedaung Village, Sawangan District, Depok City. This socialization was attended by 72 participants and 3 experienced resource persons as speakers. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge regarding maggot cultivation by 24% of the 50 participants who answered the pre-test and post-test questions.
