Abstract

Burning waste is an instant way to overcome the problem of waste which is increasing from year to year. Even though it can reduce the volume of waste quickly, this process can have negative effects that have a direct impact on the environment and the health of the surrounding community. Awareness not to burn waste needs to be fostered from the immediate environment in order to create a good understanding of waste processing. Especially environmentally friendly waste processing. Socialization activities regarding waste processing and sorting present alternative solutions that can be carried out by the people of Kedaung Village, namely by implementing waste processing methods through making organic compost fertilizer. The results show that there is an increase in knowledge of 39.58% about environmentally friendly waste processing and sorting. Therefore, the community is considered to have participated in supporting environmental sustainability and supporting the achievement of SDG's goal number 11 concerning Sustainable Cities and Communities. Environmentally friendly waste processing is the main guideline in maintaining environmental quality for the legacy of future generations. The efforts made by the Kedaung Village community to reduce waste are also part of the implementation of Depok City Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2014 concerning Waste Management and community participation. Therefore, the role and contribution of the community is very significant for the local City Government, especially in the field of environment and city sustainability. This socialization activity is a form of collaborative governance involving the local government, community and university students.
