Abstract

This study aims to operationalize the meaning of QS. An-Nisa verse 34 in understanding the accountability of fathers after divorce according to Islam. This study uses a qualitative method with a religious (Islamic) paradigm and an Islamic accountability approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four informants: a father, a mother, a child, and a religious leader. The results of the study indicate that a father's accountability after divorce operates within a dynamic framework with certain limitations. In terms of financial support, irregularities were observed, particularly in meeting the basic needs of the child, which were primarily fulfilled by the mother. Fathers tend to provide financial support on a situational basis, such as for educational expenses. As a protector, he is present through advice, safety reminders, and emotional support, which, although limited, remain meaningful. As an educator, the father instills religious values, ethics, and responsibility, both directly and indirectly. As a judge, he participates in making important decisions regarding the child's life while still allowing room for participation. This finding reinforces that a father's accountability in Islam is not only material but also transcendental. Islamic accountability is understood as a form of responsibility not only toward humans but also toward Allah SWT as the true owner of all trusts.
