Abstract

This research discusses how Kompas.com and Tempo.co framed through news articles on the figure of Ganjar Pranowo related to the issue of Indonesia's cancellation to host the U-20 World Cup. The purpose of this research is to explain how the figure of Ganjar Pranowo is built in the news related to the issue of Indonesia's cancelation to host the U-20 World Cup. The primary data collection method was carried out with documentation studies on two online news sites, Kompas.com and Tempo.co. News analysis was carried out using the Robert M. Entman model framing analysis method. Then, the data processing and visualization process was assisted by the NVIVO 14 application with Word Cloud, Matrix Coding Query (MCQ), and Project Map features. The results of the study found that Kompas.com and Tempo.co did different constructions of the figure of Ganjar Pranowo in the issue of Indonesia's cancelation to host the U-20 World Cup. Kompas.com was moderate and soft by stating that Ganjar's statement did not have a political purpose. Meanwhile, Tempo.co assessed the existence of political intrigue as the driver of Ganjar's statement and Tempo tried to encourage public awareness to pay more attention to Ganjar's other goals in the issue of Indonesia's cancellation to host the U-20 World Cup. In addition, the reflection of ideology in the reporting of Kompas.com and Tempo.co is in line with the ideology that underlies both media in making news.
