Abstract
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has resulted in serious humanitarian tragedies in recent decades. This has led to many violations of international humanitarian law. The 1949 Geneva Conventions, which have been ratified by many countries in the world, seem to have no significance for Russia in the conduct of state life. Thus, there is widespread anxiety among the international community. The UN as an international organization that aims to create world peace does not remain silent by taking preventive steps in responding to the conflict. Based on this explanation, questions arise regarding what violations Russia has committed in terms of International Humanitarian Law, how the 1949 Geneva Convention regulates this matter and how the role of the UN as a world peace organization responds to the conflict. This paper focuses on explaining and analyzing the data found collectively in explaining what violations have been committed in relation to the 1949 Geneva Convention and showing how important the role of the UN is in acting to create peace globally. This paper explains the facts of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and what steps the UN will take regarding this matter.
