Abstract
In general, strokes occur in the elderly population, only less than 5% occur at a young age, but the incidence of stroke at a young age has increased in the last few decades. In young people, stroke is closely related to lifestyle. Understanding the risk factors for stroke that can be controlled is important because controlling these risk factors can reduce a person's risk of having a stroke. This study aims to determine the characteristics of risk factors for young stroke patients at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in 2022. Methodology: The research design used is descriptive research with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was all patients diagnosed with stroke from 1 January 2021 – 31 December 2022 who were at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta, who had medical records and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria for this study were patients aged 15-45 years and diagnosed with stroke. Meanwhile, the research exclusion criteria were incomplete medical record data, pregnant women and patients with ascites. Results: Younger stroke patients who were hospitalized at RSPAD experienced more ischemic strokes, namely 21 patients or 61.8% and most were in the 35-44 years age group, namely 11 patients (64.7%) and more of them were of the same gender. 12 patients (54.5%) were male. The most common risk factor for stroke at young age is dyslipidemia, followed by hypercoagulation, obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The highest number of risk factors in young stroke patients hospitalized at RSPAD is 3 risk factors, namely 26.4%, based on the type of stroke, ischemic stroke patients also have the most 3 risk factors (28.5%), while the type of stroke hemorrhagic disease has at most 2 risk factors, namely 38.4%.
