Abstract
Objective : One of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders that motorcycle riders encounter is neck pain, which is a major contributor to the high rates of disability that exist worldwide. There is still little research on neck pain in motorcycle riders at urban institutions. But with the number of people riding motorcycles and the population growing, it's getting more and more important to figure out what causes neck pain. Method : As much as 421 research participants participated in this cross-sectional, observational, analytical study that used a convenience sample technique. A questionnaire was used to gather information on demographics, motorcycle riding behaviors, perceived stress, and past neck pain. The data was then statistically evaluated using the Chi-Square Test, Spearman's Rank, and Logistic Regression analysis. Result : Of motorcycle riders in their working years, two thirds (67%) have experienced neck pain in the past. Among productive adult motorcyclists at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta in 2023, occupations as lecturers or teaching staff (OR = 3,940; 95% CI = 1,193 – 13,007; p-value = 0,024) and less than 7 hours of sleep per day (OR = 1,774; 95% CI = 1,094 – 2,875; p-value = 0,020) are associated with the occurrence of neck pain. Confounding factors include age, marital status, and daily commuting distance. Conclusion : In conclusion, neck pain is a prevalent complaint among adult riders who are also productive. Occupational characteristics and the amount of sleep an individual gets each day are risk factors for neck pain in university populations. It is essential for both successful adulthood.
