Abstract

The structural strength of deck cranes is a critical factor in maintaining safe ship operations. Deck cranes are responsible for lifting and moving liquid cargo. Therefore, adequate structural strength is required to withstand heavy loads and maintain crane stability during operation. This study aims to determine the changes in stress values due to additional loads, as well as to determine the maximum area of change results due to loading variations. The method used in the analysis is Finite Element Analysis. In this study, the crane deck structure was analysed with various loading variations, to understand the structural response to elevation angle conditions. From the analysis, the largest value at 20 tonnes loading is at 0° elevation angle with a maximum stress of 74.275 MPa and the minimum stress value at 55° elevation angle of 42.638 MPa. At 25 tonnes loading, the maximum stress value is obtained at an elevation angle of 0° with a value of 95.152 MPa and the minimum stress value at an elevation angle of 55° of 56.851 MPa. The safety factor in the loading variation can still be declared safe because the safety factor value at each elevation angle obtained is not less than 1.
