Abstract
One of Indonesia's commodities that is a superior product is coffee. The uniqueness of Indonesian coffee is a good potential for export activities as it can boost the Indonesian economy. However, as one of the coffee-producing countries in the world, the value and volume of Indonesian coffee exports are still lacking due to several challenges that Indonesian coffee faces such as coffee standardization and competitor countries. Seeing the condition of the South Korean market which is quite large due to the South Korean people's consumption of coffee, the potential value and volume of Indonesian coffee exports to South Korea can increase. This study aims to discuss the attempts of Indonesian coffee bean exports to South Korea by using international trade theory and the concept of economic diplomacy. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with primary and secondary data sources. The data collection technique used in this study was through semi-structured interviews, data from related documents and literatures, both print and online media. The results of this study indicate attempts and maximization of coffee diplomacy by Indonesia in exporting coffee to South Korea through government actors and the private sector. Coffee diplomacy was carried out to address several challenges faced in Indonesian coffee exports to South Korea in 2016 – 2021. These attempts maximize the potential of Indonesian coffee and opportunities for the South Korean coffee market so that the value and volume of Indonesian coffee exports in 2016 – 2021 will also increase. These attempts include business matching, coffeeversation, Seoul coffee expo, and Seoul café show with several roles from government and private sector actors. Through these attempts, the value and volume of Indonesian coffee exports to South Korea through the following year also increased quite well.
