Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Management of unstable blood glucose levels in the short term is to prevent complications, while the long term prevention is to eliminate complaints or symptoms of diabetes mellitus. DM that is not managed properly can develop into acute and chronic complications. The non-pharmacological action used to help overcome the instability of blood sugar levels is tai chi exercise. The purpose of the application of tai chi exercise is to determine the effectiveness of tai chi exercise on reducing blood glucose levels. Tai chi exercise was performed on two patients, namely the managed patient and the resume patient. Tai Chi Exercise was carried out for 3 days from March 25, 2022 to March 27, 2022. The results of the implementation of tai chi exercise showed that there was a decrease in blood glucose levels in the main managed clients, from 250 mg/dL to 215 mg/dL, while in resume clients a change in blood glucose levels from 290 mg/dL to 225 mg/dL. This shows that tai chi exercise can effectively help lower blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Community nurses are advised to apply tai chi exercise as a complementary therapy option to help lower blood glucose levels. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Blood glucose, Tai chi exercise
