Abstract

Sonar (Sound, Navigation, and Ranging) is one way to detect the movement of objects or objects below sea level. Sonar utilizes ultrasonic waves and acoustic signals generated by underwater objects. A passive sonar system is a sonar system that only focuses on receiving waves or signals from underwater objects such as submarines. In the reception of waves or signals, sonar utilizes the Doppler effect. The Doppler effect is a form of noticeable difference between sound waves or light waves when they leave the wave source, and at the time when the wave gets to the wave receiver, which is caused by the relative movement between the wave receiver and the wave source. The Doppler effect is also used to measure the speed of an object on radar or sonar. Submarine detection using a passive sonar system is one way to detect the movement of enemy ships entering Indonesian waters. Therefore this research was made to analyze the effectiveness of detection of submarines entering Indonesian waters using a passive sonar system. Passive sonar systems have formulas and calculations to find out what distances and objects are detected. To prove the effectiveness of passive sonar systems, simulations and simple experiments were carried out using ultrasonic HC – SR 04 sensors assisted by the Arduino Uno Rev 3 program and software review. The target uses an artificial object of a plastic bottle filled with water. In the first experiment, the sensor was able to detect objects at a distance of 21cm with a degree of accuracy of 99.95%. In the second experiment, variations were made with the number of objects, and distance. Objects are placed together, the first object can be detected at a distance of 14cm with an accuracy rate of 97%, in the second experiment the object can be detected at a distance of 32cm with an accuracy rate of 98%. The passive sonar system used can detect the target of the intended object, to carry out more in-depth simulations and experiments, more up-to-date sensor tools are needed and relatively expensive costs.
