Abstract

Obesity is an imbalance between energy intake with energy output and is characterized by the accumulation of fat in adipose tissue. Obesity in adolescence can cause serious problems that will continue into adulthood. The incidence of obesity in adolescents is caused by several things, one of which is a change in diet that contains high fat, carbohydrates, and sodium, but is low in fiber so that it can cause an imbalance in nutritional fulfillment. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between consumption of risky foods (sweet, salty and fatty) with the incidence of obesity in adolescents. This study used a cross-sectional method. The sample in this study amounted to 122 respondents using a simple random sampling method. The bivariate analysis of respondents used the chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the consumption of sweet foods and the incidence of obesity (p value = 0.000) and there was a relationship between the consumption of fatty foods and the incidence of obesity (p value = 0.000). However, there was no relationship between the consumption of salty foods and the incidence of obesity (p value = 0.160).
