Abstract

Hypertension is a non -communicable disease that is one of the problems with the highest cause of death in the world. One of the keys to success in handling hypertension is obedient to taking medicine. The purpose of this study was conducted to determine the relationship of family support and client motivation to drug compliance with hypertension sufferers in the working area of Pasar Kemis Health Center. This study uses a chi-square test with a descriptive design of the cross sectional approach, with a population of hypertension sufferers in the working area of Pasar Kemis Puskesmas, sample 144 respondents and using purposive sampling techniques. Data was taken using the Family Support Questionnaire, Treatment Motivation Questionnaire (TMQ), and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). The results showed the relationship between family support and compliance with taking drugs P-value = 0,000 (p <0.05) OR = 5,931; between client motivation and compliance with taking p-value drugs = 0,000 (p <0.005) OR = 9,346. It can be concluded that compliance with taking medication is related to family support and compliance with taking medication related to client motivation. Therefore, the family must provide support to people with hypertension so that the client is more enthusiastic in taking medicine and motivated to always obey.
