Abstract
In 2018, South Jakarta occupied the highest position for the findings of lumps in the breast as many as 70 cases (0.76%) in DKI Jakarta. Breast cancer early detection methods that can be effective and easy to do is BSE. This study aims to determine the effect of BSE counseling on the perception and knowledge of early detection of breast cancer in SMAN 49 Jakarta students. This study used a Pre-Experimental Design, namely The One group pretest posttest design which was conducted from November to December 2020. The population of this study were all students of SMAN 49 Jakarta with a total sample of 121 people with a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used to measure perception is the Likert scale and the one to measure knowledge is the Guttman scale which is disseminated through e-questionnaires. Statistical analysis used Paired Sample T Test for perception variables and Wilcoxon Test for knowledge variables. The results showed that after being given BSE counseling, students who had positive perceptions increased to 66.9% and 44.6% had good knowledge. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of BSE counseling on the perceptions and knowledge of SMAN 49 Jakarta students with each p-value of 0,000. It is hoped that young women can better understand BSE and can practice it regularly.
