Abstract
Objective: The aging process tends to reduce physical fitness, one of them is flexibility. The level of physical activity of the elderly decreases with ageing process. While physical activity is important for an independent life. With reduced physical activity in the elderly, elderly tend to have a longer sitting time. For example, in carrying out daily activities elderly tend to work on activities in a long sitting position. The purpose of this literature review was to find out the relationship between sitting time and flexibility. Method: literature review. From sources of literature, journals, articles, research results in several databases such as Google Schoolar, Science Direct, Elsevier, PEDro, PubMed by using certain keywords in the period 2016-2020. Results: The results obtained from the literature review which is supported by six journals that discuss the same problem, the long duration of sitting affect the flexibility of the elderly.Besides the fact that the aging process tends to reduce physical fitness, and one of the physical fitness is flexibility and the level of physical activity of the elderly decreases with age, older people who spend more time sitting have more decreased flexibility than older people who are more active. Conclusion: Long sitting duration in elderly is assoiated with lower flexibility. Keywords : Sitting time, Elderly, Flexibility
