Abstract

Bulk carrier is one of the types of merchant ship that specially designed to carry unpackaged cargo such as coal, grain, cement, etc. The bulk carrier population dominate around 21% of the world’s merchant ship population. The SOLAS international convention defines that this ship has its own characteristics consisting of a single deck, top side tank, hopper side tank. Bulk cargo are objects that supplied or distribute in large quantities and not packaged. Cargo containing bulk material are usually moved using special equipment depending on the cargo. The author conducted a study to design the ship bulk carrier 20000 DWT as a carrier of cement from Tj. Perak in Surabaya to Sorong. With the results of principal dimensions: LOA 153,4 m, LWL 151,7 m, LPP 147,3 m, B 22,7 m, H 12,6 m, T 9,03 m, Vs 13,3 Knot, This research was carried out to support the development of the Indonesian economy. The design of the bulk carrier is to expected to meet the needs of bulk cargo transportation, given the lack of bulk cargo transport fleet in Indonesia.
