Abstract

This research aims to design and build a glass waste shredder machine driven by an electric motor for household-scale use. The machine is designed with an effective shredding capacity of 6.30 kg/hour and produces an average shred size of less than 3 mm. Key components include high-carbon steel cutting blades, a transmission system with pulleys and v-belts, and a sturdy lightweight steel frame that is easy to manufacture. The manufacturing process includes several stages, such as cutting, turning, welding, drilling, and assembling the components. The machine’s test results show a shredding yield of 65.8%, which meets the glass waste processing industry’s needs for supporting recycling processes. The total production cost of the machine is Rp. 3,298,500, making it an affordable alternative for small-scale or household businesses. The machine offers advantages in terms of efficiency, ease of use, and low operational costs. Based on the conducted trials, the machine meets the expected specifications and is ready for further development, with potential for adding more features and adjustments for larger capacities.
