Abstract
The reliance on conventional wired charging restricts user mobility and is susceptible to mechanical wear. This research aims to design and construct a Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) prototype utilizing the Resonant Inductive Coupling method, powered by polycrystalline solar panels as a renewable energy source. The system integrates a powerbank and a Power Delivery (PD) Decoy Sink module to statically configure the input voltage profile at 12 Volts to excite a Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) oscillator. Performance testing was conducted across varying air gaps of 0 mm, 2.5 mm, and 5 mm to supply a 5000 mAh smartphone battery load. The test results demonstrated that the PD Decoy integration successfully maintained input voltage stability despite extreme fluctuations in solar irradiance up to 89,040 lux. The highest power transfer efficiency was achieved at a 0 mm distance at 75.08%, degrading to 73.34% at 2.5 mm and 67.38% at 5 mm. In comparative testing, the WPT prototype outperformed the charging rate of a commercial WPT module across all distance variations, recording 199 minutes (7 minutes faster) at 0 mm and 257 minutes (14 minutes faster) at 5 mm. Under comparative apple-to-apple testing conditions, encompassing both load and equivalent coil geometry, the temporal superiority of the prototype is a manifestation of the open-loop analog oscillator design without thermal throttling limitations. The absence of a controller IC and temperature sensor in the prototype allows for constant power flow without current reduction, in contrast to the commercial module which implements a closed-loop system with active temperature protection (NTC) that triggers charging deceleration.
