Abstract
High sugar and high fat food consumption among adolescents contributes to an increased risk of overweight and obesity. Engaging nutrition education media are needed to improve adolescents’ knowledge and encourage positive attitudes toward healthier food choices. This study aimed to examine the effects of board game and e-book education media on adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding low-sugar and low-fat food choices. This quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest two-group design involved 60 eleventh-grade students selected through stratified random sampling. Knowledge and attitudes were assessed before and after the intervention using questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that both the board game (p = 0.008) and the e-book (p=0,000) significantly improved knowledge. However, neither the board game group (p = 0.127) nor the e-book group (p = 0.436) showed significant changes in attitudes. In addition, no significant differences were observed between the two media in improving knowledge (p = 0.297) or attitudes (p = 0.117). In conclusion, both the board game and the e-book were effective in improving adolescents' knowledge, but neither resulted insignificant improvements in attitudes toward choosing low-sugar and low-fat foods in adolescent at SMA Negeri 109 Jakarta.
