Abstract
Impaired blood glucose regulation is a metabolic health issue whose prevalence is shifting from older age groups to younger ones. An individual’s risk of developing metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus may increase with the occurrence of chronic hyperglycemia. This study analyzed differences in glycemic load, fiber intake, sleep quality, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels during and after the Ramadan fast among 100 students at UPN "Veteran" Jakarta Limo Campus, using an analytical observational design with a longitudinal approach (repeated measurements) with snowball sampling. The data were analyzed using the dependent t test and the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that FBG levels decreased after Ramadan. Glycemic load was mostly in the low category during Ramadan. Fiber intake decreased, while sleep quality improved after Ramadan. Bivariate analysis showed significant differences in FBG, glycemic load, and sleep quality between the two periods (p<0.05), while fiber intake has not shown any significant differences (p>0.05). In conclusion, FBG, glycemic load, and sleep quality differed between the fasting and post-Ramadan periods, whereas fiber intake did not. Students are advised to adopt a balanced, nutritious diet and maintain good sleep quality to support blood glucose regulation.
