Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of machining parameters, including spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, on the Surface Roughness (Ra) of Aluminum 6061-T6 material during the conventional turning process using carbide tools. The research method employed a full factorial design with three factors and three levels, resulting in 27 parameter combinations tested on a CDS6250B lathe. The variations included spindle speeds of 500, 720, and 1000 rpm; feed rates of 0.124, 0.248, and 0.496 mm/rev; and depths of cut of 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 mm. Surface Roughness measurements were conducted using a Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-301 at three points per specimen. The data were analyzed through descriptive-comparative methods and statistically tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of α = 0,05. The results indicate that feed rate is the most dominant parameter and the only one with a statistically significant effect on Ra values, contributing 75.62% (F-hitung = 36,58; P-Value = 0,000), while spindle speed (3.49%) and depth of cut (0.21%) were not found to be significant. Surface Roughness increased drastically with higher feed rates, with the mean Ra rising from 3.40 µm to 9.20 µm. The optimal parameter combination for achieving minimum Surface Roughness was found at a spindle speed of 500 rpm, a depth of cut of 0.4 mm, and a feed rate of 0.248 mm/rev, yielding a minimum Ra value of 1.76 µm, which is categorized as Surface Roughness Class N7.
