Abstract
Background : Trigger finger is a condition characterized by stenosing tenosynovitis, marked by pain, a clicking sound, or locking of the finger, as well as inflammation that causes swelling and a lump in the tendon sheath. Trigger finger has an annual incidence rate of 28 cases per 100,000 people, with a prevalence of 2% to 3% worldwide. The prevalence of Trigger Finger in Indonesia is 7.3%. This condition is typically caused by aging, excessive use of the fingers, metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms include pain, decreased muscle strength, stiffness, limited range of motion, and impaired function. Physical therapy plays a crucial role in managing this condition to enable patients to resume their activities without symptoms. Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the physiotherapy management of trigger finger cases. Research Method : Data collection utilized a case study method conducted at Tarakan Regional General Hospital in 23 February 2026, with the subject being a female patient, Mrs. T (63 years old), who experienced pain when moving her fingers and when clenching her fists. The physical therapy examinations performed included Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), measurement of range of motion, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and functional assessment using the Wrist and Hand Disability Index (WHDI). Results : The results of the study, following six sessions of therapy using Underwater Ultrasound, Hold Relax, and Tendon Gliding, showed a reduction in pain, increased muscle strength, improved range of motion, and a decrease in the WHDI score. Conclusion: After six therapy sessions, underwater ultrasound has been shown to help reduce pain. Hold Relax provides muscle relaxation and improves range of motion. Meanwhile, tendon gliding helps reduce stiffness and improve tendon mobility.
