Abstract

This study compares the profitability performance of PT Bank Mega Tbk (a conventional bank) and PT Allo Bank Indonesia Tbk (a digital bank) for the 2022–2024 period, two banks operating under the same CT Corp ecosystem but with different business models. The analysis employs four profitability ratios: Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Net Interest Margin (NIM), and Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO). This research uses a quantitative descriptive method with a comparative approach, based on secondary data from both banks' annual financial reports, evaluated according to the bank soundness assessment standards set by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The results show that Allo Bank consistently outperformed in ROA and NIM, reflecting more efficient asset management and a stronger net interest margin driven by its digital business model. Conversely, Bank Mega outperformed in ROE, indicating a greater ability to generate profit from shareholders' equity. In terms of BOPO, both banks experienced rising operating ke costs, but Bank Mega's increase was sharper, resulting in a more significant decline in operational efficiency compared to Allo Bank. Overall, both banks remained classified as healthy under OJK criteria, yet exhibited distinct profitability characteristics consistent with their respective business models.
