Abstract
This study examines the influence of Environmental Investment (EI), Climate Risk Exposure (CRE), and Earnings Quality (EQ) on Cost of Debt (COD) in energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2021 to 2024 period. Using an unbalanced panel of 17 companies and 68 firm-year observations, model selection through the Chow, Breusch-Pagan Lagrange Multiplier, and Hausman tests points to a Random Effects Model with robust standard errors as the best fit. The partial z-test results show that Environmental Investment, Climate Risk Exposure, and Earnings Quality do not significantly affect Cost of Debt, so all three main hypotheses are rejected. Firm size is the only variable that shows a significant negative effect on Cost of Debt. Taken together, the full set of variables significantly explains Cost of Debt, with an overall R-squared of 17.74 percent. A robustness check that replaces the textual climate exposure measure with carbon emission intensity confirms these conclusions. The findings suggest that the mechanism transmitting environmental investment, climate risk, and earnings quality signals into the pricing of debt has not yet worked effectively in Indonesia's credit market during the period studied.
