Abstract
Inefficient water usage in conventional agriculture drives the need for precision technology innovations. Therefore, this study develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart irrigation prototype for caisim crops utilizing the V-Shape software development model. The system architecture adopts an edge-cloud approach, where a Raspberry Pi acts as the local controller and an ESP32 functions as the sensor node. To generate adaptive watering decisions, the system implements a Mamdani Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) algorithm that processes temperature, air humidity, and soil moisture data. Water is then distributed precisely via a stepper motor actuator. To overcome latency issues found in traditional application interfaces, this system applies a Single Page Application (SPA) web architecture integrated with WebSockets. This technology guarantees that manual instructions and environmental monitoring run in real-time without being interrupted by page reloads. Aligning with the V-Shape validation stages, comprehensive testing achieved a 100% success rate following technical improvements to the mechanical actuator and reverse proxy. Furthermore, edge computing proved resilient in maintaining operational autonomy when the internet connection drops. Overall, this prototype is proven highly feasible as an adaptive and well-documented automation solution for small-scale applications.
