Abstract

The ASEAN region is one of the largest recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) among developing regions, with significant inflows trending upward during the 2004-2023 period. However, the distribution tends to be uneven across countries. Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Thailand have consistently been among the top four recipients of FDI in the region, despite differing institutional and macroeconomic characteristics. These differences indicate the existence of determinants influencing direct investment decisions in each country. This study aims to analyze the influence of Government Effectiveness, the Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER), and the Corporate Income Tax Rate on FDI receipts in four ASEAN countries from 2004-2023. This study uses a quantitative approach with panel data regression methods that combine time series and cross-sectional dimensions. The data used are secondary data obtained from the World Bank, CEIC Data, and the OECD. This study is based on the Eclectic Paradigm Theory (OLI) by John H. Dunning, which emphasizes the importance of location advantages in attracting FDI, including institutional quality, macroeconomic stability, and fiscal policy.
